On the MATCH list? What it means and what to do next
A MATCH listing makes processing harder for a peptide business, but it is not always the end. Here is what it is, why merchants are listed, and the honest path back.
What a MATCH listing actually means
When an acquiring bank ends a merchant account for cause, it can add the business and its owners to Mastercard's MATCH list. Other banks check that list when a new application comes in, so a listing follows the owners to their next processor.
For a research-peptide seller that is already in a high-risk category, a listing raises the bar again. It does not automatically mean no, but it means the file has to explain what happened and show what has changed.
Why merchants end up on the list
The listing reason matters more than the listing itself. These are the common ones.
Excessive chargebacks
A chargeback ratio above card-network thresholds for too long is the most common reason.
Suspected fraud
Fraudulent transactions, or activity the bank believed was fraudulent, on the account.
Card-network rule violations
Selling or marketing in ways that break Visa or Mastercard rules, including product claims.
Laundering or misrepresentation
Processing for another business, or misstating what the business sells.
Data security breach
A compromise of cardholder data traced to the merchant.
Bankruptcy or insolvency
The business can no longer meet its obligations to the bank.
Four steps back to processing
Work through these before you apply anywhere.
- 1
Get the listing reason from your old bank
Ask the acquirer that listed you for the reason code and date. Everything else depends on it.
- 2
Fix the cause and document it
Show lower chargebacks, a new fulfilment process, compliant product pages, or whatever addresses the reason.
- 3
Ask for removal if the listing was wrong
If you were listed in error, only the listing bank can remove you. Request it in writing.
- 4
Send a complete file to a specialist
Include recent statements, the listing reason, what changed, and your banking documents so underwriting can decide quickly.
Mistakes that make it worse
- Opening a new company to hide the listing. Banks review the owners, and concealment ends accounts.
- Paying a service that promises to remove you from MATCH. Only the listing bank can do that.
- Leaving the listing off your application. It will be found, and the omission counts against you.
- Using a front merchant or someone else's account to process your sales.
How Peptides Payments reviews a MATCH file
We look at the whole file, not just the listing. This is an honest review, not a promise of approval.
- A real underwriter reviews why you were listed and what has changed since.
- A same-day decision once your file is complete.
- Multi-bank redundancy, so one bank decision is not the only answer.
- If we cannot help, we tell you why.
MATCH list questions
What is the MATCH list?
MATCH is Mastercard's shared database of merchants whose processing was ended by an acquiring bank for cause. It is still widely called the TMF (Terminated Merchant File). Banks check it when they review a new application.
How long does a MATCH listing last?
Under Mastercard's rules a record stays on the list for five years. Only the bank that added you can remove it early, which usually happens when the listing was made in error.
Can a peptide business on the MATCH list still process cards?
Sometimes. It depends on the reason for the listing, how long ago it happened, and what has changed since. Peptides Payments will review the whole file honestly, but we can't promise approval before we have seen it.
Should I open a new company to get around a MATCH listing?
No. Banks look at the owners, not just the company name. Hiding a listing behind a new entity is treated as misrepresentation and can end an account the moment it is found.
