Adult & Dating Merchant Account

Card processing for dating apps, cam and content platforms, and adult subscription sites — placed with banks that board the category deliberately, and coded correctly from the first submission.

No application fee. Applying does not affect your personal credit.

What you need to get approved

Have these ready and most complete applications clear underwriting the same day.

  • A registered business and a bank account in the same legal name — a US entity with an EIN, or the equivalent registration and tax ID in your country
  • An honest description of what the platform actually hosts, so the correct category code is assigned at the outset rather than corrected later
  • Documented age verification for every performer and user where content is involved, with signed releases retained for anyone appearing in it
  • A published moderation and takedown process, including a reachable removal request route for non-consensual content
  • Clear pre-charge disclosure of subscription terms and a self-service cancellation path, plus a billing descriptor customers will recognise
  • Three months of processing statements if you have processed before, including a chargeback and refund breakdown
  • Government-issued ID and ownership details for anyone owning 25% or more

Everything you need to keep processing.

  • 90%+ approval — Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay & Google Pay
  • Checkout that feels like Stripe — no redirects, no pop-ups
  • Same-day integration · no contract · one flat rate
  • USD payouts to your U.S. bank

Based outside the United States? Canadian and international merchants settle in their own banking system and currency — everything else above is the same.

Two merchant category codes sit behind this industry, and which one you land in decides everything that follows.

Why adult and dating accounts get closed

  • Mainstream dating and adult content are different underwriting categories with different codes, and a dating platform described loosely enough to read as adult content inherits a registration and fee structure it never needed.
  • Adult content merchants must be registered with the card networks before they process, and an unregistered account discovered later is a compliance breach rather than a paperwork gap.
  • Recurring subscriptions in this category are disputed at an unusually high rate, because customers who do recognise the charge sometimes prefer to say they do not.
  • A billing descriptor that is explicit on a shared bank statement converts ordinary renewals into chargebacks, and a descriptor that is too vague does the same thing for the opposite reason.
  • Any platform carrying user-uploaded content is underwritten on its moderation, age verification, and takedown process, not on its revenue.

What your account includes

  • Underwriting that already knows the vertical

Your application is prepared and presented by people who place adult and dating accounts regularly, so the file is framed correctly the first time instead of triggering an avoidable decline.

  • Multi-bank redundancy

Where volume supports it, your business is set up with more than one acquiring relationship. If one account is paused, you keep accepting payments rather than going dark — the single biggest difference between surviving a disruption and losing a month of revenue.

  • Compliance guidance before you apply

A review of your storefront, disclaimers, and checkout against what underwriters actually look for, so avoidable issues are corrected up front rather than surfacing as a decline.

  • Chargeback tooling from day one

Dispute alerts and prevention workflows are configured at boarding, because staying under network dispute thresholds is what keeps a high-risk account open long-term.

Adult & Dating Merchant Account questions

Can I get a merchant account for a dating app?+

Yes, and mainstream dating is considerably easier to place than most operators expect. A dating platform that hosts no explicit content is a subscription business, and it is usually coded as a dating and escort service rather than adult content. The obstacle is rarely the product. It is a description that leaves an underwriter unsure which of the two categories you belong in, because ambiguity is resolved conservatively.

What is the difference between a dating and an adult merchant account?+

They are separate merchant category codes, and the acquirer assigns them, not you. Mainstream dating sits in the dating services code; explicit content sits in the adult content code, which carries mandatory card network registration, annual fees, and per-transaction assessments the dating code does not. The practical consequence is that how you describe your platform at application determines your cost base for as long as the account exists.

Do adult content merchants have to register with the card networks?+

Yes. Both Visa and Mastercard operate mandatory registration programmes for adult content merchants, carrying annual fees and additional per-transaction assessments, and the acquirer is accountable for registering you correctly. Processing explicit content on an unregistered account is not a technicality that gets tidied up later — it is the kind of finding that ends an account and can follow the owner to the next one.

How MCCs are assigned
What does underwriting look for on a platform with user-uploaded content?+

Three things, in this order: that every performer is age-verified with a signed release on file, that moderation happens before content is publicly visible rather than after a complaint, and that there is a working removal route for non-consensual material with a defined response time. A platform that can evidence all three is boardable. One that treats moderation as a support ticket queue generally is not.

Why do these accounts get so many chargebacks?+

Because a share of disputes in this category are not really disputes. A renewal appears on a statement another person can see, and the easiest route out is to tell the issuer the charge was not recognised. That is why the billing descriptor matters more here than in almost any other vertical: it has to be discreet enough that the customer is not embarrassed, and specific enough that they know exactly what it is. Getting that one field right measurably reduces losses.

How chargeback ratios are measured
What does a high-risk merchant account cost?+

High-risk pricing is quoted per business rather than from a rate card, because it depends on your monthly volume, average ticket, chargeback history, and product mix. Expect rates above standard retail processing, since the acquiring bank is pricing genuine risk. You should always receive the full fee schedule in writing before you sign anything.

Will I need a rolling reserve?+

Sometimes. A reserve is a percentage of volume the bank holds temporarily against future disputes, and it is common for newer high-risk accounts or those without processing history. A rolling reserve reaches a steady state rather than growing forever: once the holding window is full, money is released at roughly the same rate it is withheld. Reserves are frequently reduced or released after a clean chargeback record, and the terms should be disclosed up front.

Can I keep my current processor and add a second account?+

Yes, and it is often the smartest structure. Running more than one acquiring relationship means a pause on one account does not stop revenue on the other. Redundancy is the difference between an inconvenience and a shutdown.

What if I have already been terminated or placed on MATCH?+

It is still worth applying. A prior termination or a MATCH listing narrows the options and affects pricing, but it is not automatically disqualifying — the reason code and how you have operated since matter a great deal. Be upfront about it, because underwriting will find it and undisclosed history is far more damaging than the history itself.
