Reason Code

The card-network code that states why a chargeback was filed and what evidence is needed to fight it.

A reason code is the standardized code accompanying a chargeback that explains why it was filed — fraud, product not received, duplicate billing, and so on.

The reason code dictates what evidence a merchant must supply to dispute it successfully, so reading it correctly is the first step of any representment.
